What's New
- We are pleased to report that Sauer recently received an Outstanding Evaluation for the successful completion of the Child Development Center at the Naval Air Station, Jacksonville, FL.
This was an $11 million design build project, involving a 31,000 SF single story structure. Included in this project was a $3 million photo-voltaic system installed on the parking lot shade structures. Sauer is currently performing solar panel installations on a few other jobs, and is gaining important experience for our resume and future opportunities in the area of renewable energy. The Navy was very complimentary of Sauer’s performance in all aspects of our operations, citing that “Sauer wanted an outstanding evaluation on this contract, and every member of Sauer’s team, from the PM to the field team, showed that they were committed to providing a “showcase” facility for the US Navy and that’s exactly what the Navy got”. Thank you to key project personnel, including Josh Bates, Daniel Jones, Gary Leatherbarrow, Terry Tuffie, Jim Lutz, Vernon Brown, Johnny Alvers, Nick Morgan, Ricky Ragans, Ryan Jones, Matt Del Pizzo, Mike McVinney, Dave Macher, Jim Klepzig, Fred Tarverdi, and the other Sauer support personnel that contributed to our successful performance.
- Congratulations go out to our team at Fort Gordon Temporary Barracks Upgrade Program for being awarded the large contract safety award for the second quarter, FY 2011 by the Savannah District US Army Corps of Engineers. Thanks to the team comprised of Darren Harrell, Luther Coleman, James Dardon, Antonio Franzese, Frank Smalls, Brent Rogers, Sara Harrell, Dan Hart, Erich Reichle, Mike Crump and Ed Proulx.
- Sauer was a sponsor of Patriot’s Outpost at The Players Championship Golf Tournament in Jacksonville, FL during the week of 9-15 May 2011. Patriot’s Outpost was established to honor current and retired service-members and their families throughout the week by providing an air conditioned pavilion along with free food and drink. Sauer conducted a raffle give-away during the week, and donated the proceeds of $10,931 to the Wounded Warrior Project.
Sauer received an Outstanding Performance Evaluation for the recent successful completion of the National Center for Explosives Training and Research facility at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, AL. This was a $27 million design/build project for the Corps of Engineers. The project was a two story, 82,000sf steel framed structure with brick façade. The interior consists of Class A office space, with unique and complex intricacies. The facility will serve as the Nation's foremost explosives and forensic training, research and knowledge center. Sauer's safety program on this project was especially effective, with the Mobile Corps office selecting Sauer among numerous contractors across their entire district for the distinguished Mobile District 2010 Safety Award Winner in the Large Category. Congratulations to all on the Sauer Redstone Team!"
Sauer recently completed the Crew Launch Vehicle Mobile Launch Pad (CLVMLP) at Kennedy Space Center (FL)
where we installed all of the Mechanical and Plumbing systems, as well as the Ignition Overpressure (IOP) System and launch mount. The project has received two awards, the first was from NASA and the second was the Southeast Construction award from McGraw Hill 10 best awards recognizing excellence for best industrial project.
Congratulations to Sauer's MidAtlantic Team for achieving Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) Gold certification for Hawkeye / Greyhound Test and Evaluation Facility, located at Pax River, Maryland Naval Air Station. The project's final LEED rating reflected 39 documented and approved points, which corresponded to the gold certification level under the LEED for New Construction rating system.

Railgun demonstration
Sauer recently completed construction on the Electromagnetic Railgun Testing Facility in Dahlgren VA without any lost time accidents or near misses. The complex consists of 2 buildings, extensive sitework and a specialized firing range designed to stop a 45-55 lb bullet traveling at Mach 7. Sauer’s team worked closely with the building owner to ensure that their highly critical testing schedule was never compromised and because of this relationship the facility manager remarked on several occasions that "Sauer is the best contractor (I have ever worked with)." - Sauer recently received an Outstanding Evaluation for the successful completion of the $33 million Special Operations Facility at Ft. Bragg, NC.
The project was Design Build and involved the construction of two 50,000sf 2-story additions. It was unique because of the high level of security associated with the SOF compound, and the challenging logistics involved with working in such an environment. Despite the security challenge, as well as the incorporation of several late Owner-requested modifications, the project was completed three months ahead of schedule.
There were no lost time accidents on the project, which contributed to Sauer winning three quarterly Safety awards as well as the annual Corps of Engineers Safety award for the entire Savannah District. Thank you to all the people on Sauer's Team that contributed to this project's success!
We are pleased to announce that Sauer received an Outstanding Evaluation we for the successful completion of the Catering and Conference Center at Naval Air Station Patuxent River. The $5.8 million river-front project was a 19,000 sf facility which primarily included a kitchen, restaurant, and meeting space. Thank you to all of our key employees that worked on this project!
We are pleased to announce another Outstanding Evaluation that we recently received for the successful completion of three 3-story new barracks facilities at Hunter Army Air Field, Savannah, GA. The $23 million design-build project completed for the Savannah Corps of Engineers included a combined 70,000sf. Similar to our recently completed barracks project at Ft. Stewart, this project incorporated a prefabricated modular wall panel system to accommodate the aggressive project schedule. The project was designed and built to achieve a Silver LEED certification. The project included over 143,000 work hours with no lost time accidents. This is one of the first NEW barracks building projects that we have performed. Thank you to all on the Sauer Team who worked on this project to exceed our customer's expectations!
- Congratulations to the entire team at MacDill Air Force Base Projects! Sauer has won the third quarter "Celebrate Safety" large (between 7 million and 50 million dollars) contractor award given out by the Mobile District Army Corps of Engineers (USACE). There were nine companies competing for the large category award.
- Sauer's team at Ft. Stewart (Savannah, GA) received an Outstanding Performance Evaluation for our successful completion of a 135,000 sf three-story apartment style barracks building. This was a $20 million design-build project that meets the requirement of LEED Silver. We took the opportunity to utilize a prefab steel frame/ concrete face customer’s aggressive schedule, which was a first such installation for the Army Corps of Engineers on the East Coast. We also compiled 175,000 work hours with zero lost time accidents, which greatly contributed to us receiving a Ft. Stewart Quarterly Safety award. Congratulations to all on our project team!
- Sauer received Outstanding Evaluation from the Navy for the successful completion of the $14 million Consolidated Academic Facility at Marine Corps Base, Camp LeJeune, NC. This was a design-build project of a 58,000 sf, multi-story instructional facility. The Navy was particularly impressed with our proactive management, supervision, and quality control, citing our outstanding communications in dealing with a difficult Customer. Thank you to all of our personnel who worked on this project!
